New funding for WKSN land management

We're excited to receive $1,276,946 through the Round 8 Aboriginal Ranger Program grants, which will be used to create good jobs and care for Noongar Boodja. The funding will allow WKSN to:

🌱 Establish a school-based ranger program 🌳

This program will help high school kids to get out on country with Noongar Elders, to do some basic land management work and learn about cultural values and boodja. Funding includes payment for Elders and two program coordinators, and the program will begin in 2025.

πŸ”₯ Develop a fire management plan for WKSN’s Noongar Land Estate lands πŸͺ΅

The funding will support a WKSN fire officer to develop a fire management plan, develop partnerships with Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA, DBCA Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia and local governments, and explore training and cultural burning programs.

πŸ—‚ Conduct feasibility studies and business plans for WKSN to run commercial camping grounds and other tourism enterprises ⛺️
